For years we have done all the exterior restoration work that you can read about in the other sections on this page. After being asked and prodded by our customers, and after coming up with an approach we could feel passionate about, we have put together an expert restoration painting crew. I don’t know if you’ve noticed this, but lately I’ve seen a lot of painting companies add the words “&Restoration” to their names. Don’t be fooled. An extra carton of caulk and some moldings from Home Depot do not transform those college student painters into restoration carpenters. These companies aren’t our competition; ignorance and misinformation is. This is where we are different. We treat the painting as the capstone to a restoration. Sure, some houses need a fresh coat of paint without lots of carpentry, and as historic purists, we’re the last people to fix or replace something that isn’t broken. But the key to a long-lasting paint job is the quality and integrity of all the things that happen before a paint can is opened. The soft and damaged wood needs repairing and consolidation. The flashings need to be sound and properly fit, the roof needs to drain properly, and windows need to function as they should. Then the house needs a thorough scraping, so that all the loose and failing paint is removed. Then let the colors emerge as we apply two coats of the highest quality exterior paints. Don’t settle for the cheap 5-year paint jobs. Call Community Building and Restoration, the Restoration & Painting experts.
